Textile Landscapes 2o23
This work is focused on environmental memory and what it means as a viewer to enter these private memories of an environment. I treat my fabric as paint, creating shapes and accumulating new colors through fabric collages. I start my work with a specific memory in mind, but as time passes and I intuitively mark make, I find myself creating a new environment and memory as I work.
Idylls 2020
Idyll’s explores heritage and familial storytelling through emotional drapes and surface design. Inspired by pre-Raphaelite paintings and methodologies, I modernized techniques of lacemaking and beading within my collection. My machine lacemaking technique created a sculptural floral textile. To further incorporate the overall theme of heritage I used my family tartan, and beaded it. Throughout this process, I practiced sustainable resource buying and zero waste techniques to create my garments. This collection speaks to the persistence of memory and nostalgia through visual storytelling.
